Spa Selections Scum Remover helps clear cloudy water and prevent scum lines and rings from forming on your hot tub or spa.
The enzymes in this scum-removing product digest lotions, oils and organic contaminants that can make hot tub water look cloudy.
This scum remover for spas and hot tubs also helps protect filters from oily buildup to improve filtration. Best of all, it’s compatible with all sanitizers.
To remove existing scum lines and rings, add 0.5 fl. oz. of Spa Selections Scum Remover per 250 gallons of spa water per day until scum line is gone.
For ongoing prevention of scum lines, add 0.5 fl. oz. of Spa Selections Scum Remover per 250 gallons of spa water weekly.
It’s good practice to drain and refill hot tub water every 90 days. Spa Selections Scum Remover is not a disinfectant; use a spa sanitizer for the safety and comfort of users.
Scum rings are formed from oils and other chemicals found on our bodies. When we get into a hot tub, these chemicals wash off our bodies and into the water. Over time, they build up in the hot tub, causing a ring to form around the tub. If the water has an excess of calcium, scaling can occur. When this happens, you will notice a scum coating around the sides and even the fixtures of your hot tub. How to prevent scum from forming:
- Shower first. Make this a rule before getting into the hot tub. While this won't eliminate every bit of oil found on the human body, it will go a long way toward limiting how much enters your hot tub.
- Balance your water. Test your water at least once a week and add the proper chemicals to the water to make sure the pH and total alkalinity levels remain balanced. If you are battling scum or foam problems, try increasing how often you test and balance your water.
- Clean your hot tub regularly. Give your hot tub a good cleaning and regularly clean the filter so it catches compounds that lead to scum buildup.
- Shock your spa. Shocking your hot tub with both chlorine and non-chlorine-based shocks can help break down the organic materials that lead to scum buildup.
Spa Selections Bromine is a two-part system, including Spa Selections Brominating Tablets and Spa Selections Brom-Start. Overall, bromine tends to be more popular among spa owners because unlike chlorine, bromine is effective over a wider pH range, doesn't irritate your eyes and will not bleach bathing suits. Additionally, bromine is still an effective sanitizer in its combined form and doesn't smell. Many spa owners, however, elect to sanitize with chlorine. Chlorine is traditionally used in pools and is an effective sanitizer and oxidizer. Spa Selections Chlorinating Granules are easy to use and keep the water sparkling clean!
How often you shock spa water depends on the sanitizer and the number of users in a 24-hour period. If you are using Spa Selections Bromine Tablets and Spa Selections Brom-Start, it is recommended that you shock each time you finish using your spa. If you are using Spa Selections Chlorinating Granules, it is recommended that you shock at least one time per week. It may be necessary to shock more often if the user load is heavy or the water is cloudy.
